What's On My Nightstand \\ April 2012

I'm only a day late in posting this. Tuesday was way too hectic to fit it in, and I missed last month's Nightstand post altogether. I've read a lot of books since then, though. I figured out this nifty way to show book covers with links to reviews or Goodreads depending on whether or not I blogged about the book. Oh the technological advances. (Which are rather overrated, as, after about four attempts to edit this, I cannot fix the layout. I finally figured out how to fix it!)

Books I Read in March and April:

Mockingjay
The Plague
Replication: The Jason Experiment
The Wedding Dress
Lady of Milkweed Manor
The Maid of Fairbourne Hall
Maus I: My Father Bleeds History
Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began
The Secret Life of a Fool: One Man's Raw Journey from Shame to Grace
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
The Killing Zone: My Life in the Vietnam War

Letting Go of Perfect: Women, Expectations, and Authenticity
The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer

I was going to attempt to tell you my favorite from my March and April but it is just too hard. I enjoyed all of them.

I'd love your thoughts on any of these books, and feel free to leave a link to your own Nightstand post.

  1. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with the layout, but I like seeing all the covers lined up. Good for you for learning a new bit of technology.

I've really enjoyed the Julie Klassen books I've read--although I haven't read Lady of Milkweed Manor. I've seen The Wedding Dress about quite a bit, too, but haven't read it. Hmm, maybe someday I'll correct that...

    1. I'm a big Julie Klassen fan as I've read all of her books. Lady of Milkweed Manor is her first, and I was curious to see how it compared to her most recent books. It was just as good!

The Wedding Dress is a good one! The whole plot was intriguing. You should give them both a shot!

    1. I've never read a graphic novel either; it hasn't appealed to me at all. I read Maus for an English class and I loved it! I've read a few books about the Holocaust but this is a really different way to go about it. I was highly impressed as well!

  3. i've read "the wedding dress" and really liked it! if you enjoy it, i would recommend "dining with joy" also by rachel hauck if you haven't read it. i haven't read "mockingjay" but i have "the hunger games" sitting on my shelf so i'll be reading the whole series at some point. i would also recommend "divergent" (the 2nd book "insurgent" comes out next week!) - it reminds me of the trilogy. and i've read "never let you go." it was ok but for that genre, i'd prefer frank peretti, which i see you have covered with "illusion" :)

    1. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm always adding books to my to-read list. I'll definitely have to check out Dining With Joy, and I've been hearing about this Divergent, so I may have to look into that as well. :)

  4. I noticed when clicking on Lady of Milkweed cover that I have had this one listed in my to-read shelf at goodreads since 2009. Hmmm...maybe I ought get this one read sometime over the summer.

What did you think of Mockingjay? I did not care for it much.

One Thousand Gifts is a very good book - I hope you enjoy it.

I really like Love Begins with Elle a book Rachel Hauck. I cannot compare it to The Wedding Dress as I have yet to read that one yet.
