What's on My Nightstand (September 28)

What's On Your NightstandI cannot believe it has already been a month since my most recent (and very first) What's On Your Nightstand? post. (Click that link and it will take you directly to 5 MinutesforBooks.com, where you can find out how to participate.) Let us pause to sigh here for a moment. All right, now I'm ready to talk books.

I am excited to say that I have successfully completed only one of the books I had on my last What's On Your Nightstand? posts. That is sad, I have to admit, but I was reading like crazy! That's mainly because I did not stick to that list. Thankfully that isn't a requirement. But, I just want you to know that I was really reading during that time. As I've mentioned in other posts, school is here, and assigned reading is nuts! That means I don't have as much time as I would like to read books.

Over the past month, I read (reviews I finished are linked):
Well, that's not too bad, anyways. I'm actually still working on Condi, but I'm hoping to get it finished this weekend.

What's on my nightstand for this coming month? I hope to read/finish:
  • The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
  • One Perfect Day by Lauraine Snelling
  • Notes on Nursing by Florence Nightingale
  • My Son, the Savior by Melody Carlson
Not everything from last month made it over to this post. Last month I wanted to read more biography/historical/deep literature, this month I feel like I need a break from the world... I need some easy fiction. Good fiction, but easy all the same.

I think it could be fun to tell you random things about my reading habits in these posts. So, this time I'll tackle the question, Where do I read my books?
  • I always keep a book (at least one) in my backpack when I go to school. I read whenever I have a nice break. Libraries are wonderful.
  • I like small books because I can fit them in my purse. (I carry small purses, if that helps to explain anything.) Then, I take the book everywhere and read it whenever I'm waiting for something.
  • I take books to the doctor's office. You never know how long you'll have to wait, and skimming magazines is not my cup of tea.
  • I read outside sometimes. I'll take a chair outside, sit in the shade, and just read. It's wonderful.
  • I read in the living room while my family is watching TV. I think I've almost perfected the art of reading while crazy amounts of noise are blaring around me.
  • I read in the bathroom. Yep, I had to add this one.
  • I read while eating my breakfast.
  • I read before I go to bed. Actually, I've been doing this a lot more lately. It really relaxes me, as long as the book isn't really action/adventure. I don't think I could have read The Hunger Games or Catching Fire before bed. I wouldn't go to sleep. I would just keep reading until I finished it. (Actually, I did.)
  • I take books whenever I go clothes shopping with my sister. A book is a must-have when waiting outside the dressing room for what seems like hours.
That's all I can think of. The only place I don't read is in the car. Car sickness is not fun. This is a sad fact, because I can just imagine the number of books I could have read during road trips. Ah well.

Happy reading, everybody!

  1. I try to always have a book on hand as well. You never know when you'll end up sitting around wishing you had brought one!

Sounds like a great list! Happy reading!
