I'm new to the "What's on Your Nightstand?" carnival, but I thought I would give it a shot because I do, in fact, have plenty of books on my nightstand.
Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I'm reading this book for a book discussion. I've read about three chapters so far. I was intrigued by this book mainly because of its recent populartiy; it seems that every youth group near me is starting some book study about it. So far, I am pleasantly surprised. Chan focuses on God's love for us and how we should return that love. It's crazy, yes, but oh so worth it. When I'm done I will hopefully be able to write a more in depth review.
The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. Of course, I have to have a classic in my reading collection. I've had The Last of the Mohicans on my shelf for a while, waiting to be read. I've read a few chapters already and, oh, I just love classic literature! This is definitely one of my favorites; I can already tell. The story is fascinating and I'm excited to read how it all comes together. (Once again, this is not the cover of the book I am reading. I'm reading the Barnes & Noble edition.)
And who knows, I may add a couple of others in. I have such a bad habit of reading books at the same time and forgetting books I haven't finished. I suppose it is because I get easily bored with books I don't like; however, I have resolved to complete even the books that make me bored. Isn't it a pity when you look back and think of the books that you haven't yet completed. Even boring books sometimes have good endings. I guess I should read a few of them.

I thought you were new -- so thanks for confirming it-- and welcome!
ReplyDeleteI am going to make note of that Florence Nightingale book. Especially if you say it has some humor, I think my nurse sil would enjoy it.
It would be a good Christmas gift.

That Florence Nightengale book intrigues me - I might have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteLOVED Crazy Love. Definitely check out the videos on his website if you haven't already. It will make the book that much more appealing & they're just fantastic in general =)
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm coming in a bit late--but I have to ditto the others and say that Notes on Nursing sounds fascinating. I like history and medicine and old manuals and the like--so it sounds like it might be right up my alley.
ReplyDeleteNotes on Nursing is definitely fascinating. A lot of things don't necessarily apply (for instance, she talks a lot about air purification and now in hospitals we really don't have issues with that because of A/C units and air purifiers) but most of it is just common sense that can still be applied to now. Even if you aren't a nurse, there is a lot of helpful info about keeping your house and caring for the sick at home. I just like it!
ReplyDeleteCrystal - I have been watching the videos! They are perfect to watch along with the book.
A sarcastic Florence Nightingale?? That sounds fantastic-- that makes me so happy for some reason. :)
