What's On My Nightstand | February 2011

What's On Your Nightstand

I'm so happy to be able to say that this past month I have been reading and reading! There has been a lot of good stuff coming across my path, and still so much more out there. Here are a few things I've read. Some titles are linked to my reviews.

Radical by David Platt. I was skeptical at first, but Radical proved to be a very thought-provoking book.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I listened to an audio version of this book. It was so good!

What Difference Do It Make? by Ron Hall, Denver Moore, and Lynn Vincent. This is the sequel to Same Kind of Different As Me and it is just as good as the first one!

The Truth About Dating, Love, and Just Being Friends by Chad Eastham. I wasn't a fan, but some teens might find it helpful.

The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner. This is already on my Best of 2011 list. I had never read anything by Susan Meissner before this, but I so need to read more of her books. The Shape of Mercy is really one of the best current Christian fiction books I've read in a while.

Curly Girl: The Handbook by Lorraine Massey. Good tips for curly-headed girls!

I'm currently reading the following books.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It was a little harder for me to get into this one, but I am liking it.

Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis. I'm nearly finished with it. I love it!

A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot. A biography of Amy Carmichael. It is written so well and reads more like fiction than biography.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Happy reading!

  1. I really loved The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society - one of the best books I've read in awhile.

  2. Oh yay. Yes! Guernsey is awesome. As was Radical. (I was also a bit skeptical at first but ended up thinking it was very thought-provoking as well.

I read A Chance to Die several years back and didn't actually enjoy that one (which I was kind of surprised by.) Anyway - I've run into few people who didn't actually like it!

Lewis' Space Trilogy is definitely fun!

    Happy continued reading. =)

  4. Loved Guernsey when I read it a few years ago. I haven't heard of a few of the ones you read, though. I have heard of What Difference Do It Make, but I haven't gotten around to reading it.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  7. My TBR just keeps grow, grow, growing--you've convinced me with your review of The Shape of Mercy...and that teaser about A Chance to Die (although the provocative title may have also played a small role in getting that book onto my list!)

  8. Love, love Out of the Silent Planet. The whole trilogy is good, but that one is the best! And Ray Bradbury - awesome - you should definitely check out The Martian Chronicles if you haven't read it before.

The Shape of Mercy sounds great - I will be adding this one to my list for sure. :)

  9. I'm planning on beginning Guernsey soon. Everyone keeps telling me I HAVE to read it! A Chance to Die is on my TBR list too.

I read Radical about a year ago and I thought it was pretty good. Very similar in many ways to Crazy Love. I have to say though, I did not like Fahrenheit 451!
